Making Aromatic Winter Magic

Well, the weather outside is frightful, but by my fire, it’s still delightful. So I wondered…

Would you like to join me by the wood stove for a fireside chat about the magical associations of celebrated holiday aromatics?

Let’s get together, sip spiced cider, and cozy up as we explore the magic behind traditional holiday scents and flavors.

We’ll investigate the lore and associations of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, and cardamom. We’ll talk about the mythology of evergreens and conifers and discover how their mythology informs their energetics. And we’ll make and taste some delicious holiday treats.

Countdown to Christmas!

I don’t mean to alarm you, buuuuuuuuuut……. There are only three months until Christmas! I know, whatever, that feels like a lifetime. I thought so, too. Then I realized that means I pretty much only have two months to order supplies and get crackin’ on all the handmade artisan gifts I have in mind for friends and family if I want to ship them at less-than-first-born-child mailing rates….. So, yeah, I put your holiday stocking stuffer classes on the calendar. Long-time favorite holiday workshops like gifts tags and ornaments, fizzy bath bombs, amazing cocoa butter “tub truffles”, and scented aromatherapy tea lights are all on the Untamed Classroom’s calendar for you to discover, make, and share as stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, or “thank you’s” this holiday season–there are even a couple of new workshops to get you busy with your little elves making magic before the holidays.

These holiday stocking stuffer classes always fill up fast so now would be an excellent time to secure your seat at the blending table!

Each class will give you hands-on experience blending essential oils and crafting them into unique gifts–and you keep everything you make! And, as always, our take-aways are always worth more than your registration in the Untamed Classroom. Your registration fee is always less than the value of the materials you will create and receive.

It’s up to you to decide whether or not to share your aromatherapy creations with others as holiday gifts or use them to indulge yourself in aromatic delight.

Holiday SpicesEach class features a variety of essential oils and custom blends. Individual oils included are uniquely relevant to the season (think cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and peppermint) while others are beloved, premium essential oils that are sure to delight any recipient (think rose, orange blossom, jasmine, and sandalwood to name but a few…)

Register early to secure your spot in all four workshops and make yours an artisan, handmade holiday! I’ll be giving a special discount to folks who enroll in all of the holiday stocking stuffer courses, too….

Essential Oils for Green Cleaning

Tools For Cleaning WindowsBefore I met my husband, I lived in a charming two-story house in a mountain valley just outside of Glorieta, New Mexico. In spite of the fact that I had a lovely home, one of my closest neighbors always insisted that I come to her house when we visited because she suffered from environmental allergies — she couldn’t physically handle being in most people’s homes because of the various chemicals that were present there. When her shower “went out” I offered to let her use mine, which she reluctantly did. After a few days, she commented that mine was the first bathroom that was both clean and not toxic to her. The reason? I used essential oils and basic, natural ingredients in all of my cleaning supplies.

Most commercially available cleaning products contain harsh chemicals — many of them are actually toxic. While many products tout their “lemon and pine” scents, their fragrance is most often chemically derived. Considering these same products are also typically exorbitantly priced, I wonder why more people don’t embrace make-it-yourself cleaning products. The reason is most likely they simply don’t know how.

Cleaning SuppliesThe fact is you only need a handful of supplies to begin making your own cleaning products: castile soap, borax, vinegar, baking soda, salt…. And while there are a host of essential oils with therapeutic properties that line up with green cleaning (antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiviral, anti fungal), you can achieve amazing results with only six essential oils to get started: Lemon, Peppermint, White Pine, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, and Lavender are all you need!

To get you started on your way to creating amazing recipes like cutting board disinfectant, kitchen sponge spray, mold and mildew spray, wood polish, surface cleaner, tub scrub, and more, the Untamed Classroom offers a Squeaky Green! workshop that will arm you with a starter kit including 5 ml of each of the powerhouse cleaning oils listed above as well as a notebook of foundational recipes. Armed with the therapeutic properties of each of the essential oils and the ingredients and combinations necessary to leverage them, you’ll be a green cleaning machine in no time!

Our next Squeaky Green! workshop is set for November 15th, 2014 — won’t you join us?! Register now!

Transforming the Core: About the Changes Happening in the Untamed Classroom

Moving. Changing. Growing. For you.

While the web presence and class schedule for the Untamed Classroom have been oh-so-quiet, there has been a LOT of noise and change happening in the background. (Think moving-truck engines, circular saws cutting floor boards, lawn mowers, and Johnny Cash on the radio while we enthusiastically roll paint on walls….)

If you’ve been keeping up with Untamed Alchemy on Facebook or the Untamed Alchemist’s blog, you already know that we have moved our selves, critters, and business to the Idaho panhandle in the Pacific Northwest. We chose our new property in no small part because it features amazing opportunities to create an exceptional experience for future students of the Untamed Classroom.

In addition to acreage that will allow students to see, touch, smell, taste, and wildcraft medicinal herbs in our garden, nursery, pasture, and greenhouse, our new home also has an enormous finished barn. Since arriving in Idaho, we’ve been working at transforming the 900 square foot loft to a premium, finished classroom: fresh paint, new floors, better audio and visual equipment, and more room for participants to learn, engage, and blend.

So what’s in it for you, workshop participants and enthusiasts?

  • A super-premium classroom that facilitates learning and hands-on experience.
  • Many more classes and more room in each class.
  • A broader range of supplies. (Your new classroom is an extension of my blending studio so every single thing I work with will be RIGHT there.)
  • Improved audio and visual equipment to incorporate new teaching tools.
  • Access to my personal library of aromatherapy, herbal, and magical reference books.
  • Lower or no cancellation fees.
  • FREE videos on how to create your own aromatherapy products for balance and wellness in your body, life, and home.

So, while you may not have heard a peep from us in a while, we’ll shortly be singing from the top of the barn with a host of new classes, including:

  • Aromatherapy for Green Cleaning (Wood Polish, Counter Spray, Shower & Tub Scrub)
  • Making Natural Party Favors
  • Making Your Own Natural Outdoor Survival Kit (Sunscreen, Bug Repellent, Itch Sticks, and more…)
  • Aromatherapy for Massage Therapists (Blended Oils, Pain Salve, Muscle Relief Blends)
  • Introduction to Using Therapeutic Essential Oils (featuring 25 essential oils for wellness)
  • Create Your Own Personal Perfume (aligning archetypes and energetics to create an empowering, personal, and natural fragrance)
